Trout Unlimited’s “Trout in the Classroom” program is a nationwide program designed to connect students with their watersheds. Students in grades 3 – 12 raise trout from eggs to fingerlings and then release them into a state-approved cold water stream or lake. For more information on the program, its background, resources and help, please visit this website.

The Maryland “Trout in the Classroom” program has developed a partnership between The Mid-Atlantic Trout in the Classroom (MATIC) and the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The MATIC program is a voluntary effort started and originally supported by the Potomac-Patuxent Chapter of Trout Unlimited. DNR’s Aquatic Resource Education (ARE) Program provides background information on several trout species, lesson plans correlated to the Maryland State Curriculum and Environmental Literacy standards, and funding assistance for participants in the program.

For more information about The Maryland Chapter of Trout Unlimited and Trout in the Classroom please visit this website. On this site you will find Maryland specific resources, educational videos, Live fish cams, teacher resources and more.

If you are in need of financial assistance to obtain the required aquarium supplies and equipment and/or receive reimbursement for buses and substitutes for Trout Release Events, please complete the form below.  The deadline to submit a funding request form is July 31st.
