Quest Materials

Quest Information:

This Park Quest is entirely self-led and will not require staff to be onsite to be started or completed. Staff will however be able to answer questions related to the quest. The quest will be available during all park hours beginning May 1st.

The quest will begin at the Tire Playground and take place in the surrounding area. This area is accessible by stroller, but not by wheelchair. Pets are permitted but must be leashed.

Materials can be printed out at home by each participant prior to arriving at the park or picked up on site. 

The quest entails a Story Book Walk, where participants will visit different stations, each displaying a page from the story book, to read and learn about pollinators. The associated booklet includes an activity to create a story about the participant’s own pollinator journey, as well as a space to record observations of pollinators while visiting the park. 

The quest will cover a distance of roughly 0.5 miles and take approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete, between visiting each station in the story walk and completing the activity booklet. Participants will need a pen or pencil to complete the booklet.

Quest Description

A printable journal is required for this quest which can be found here. When printing the journal is possible, set printer settings to print double sided and flip on the SHORT -EDGE. Otherwise the pages won’t print in the correct order. The quest starts at the Tire playground and some copies will be available on-site.

There is no fee to do this quest however a per person park entrance applies on weekends and holidays. The fee to enter is $3 per person for MD residents and $5 per person for out-of-state, on weekends, and holidays. Service charges are waived for children in car seats, active duty military, veterans & holders of the Golden Age Pass (available at the park office to those 62 and older). There is no fee to enter during weekdays excluding holidays.

Park Description: The park, comprising 6,300 acres, extends along 14 scenic miles of Seneca Creek, as it winds its way to the Potomac River. The Clopper Day-Use Area contains many scenic areas, including the 90-acre Clopper Lake, surrounded by forests and fields. Picnicking, boat rentals, trails and a tire playground are just some of its recreational opportunities. A restored 19th century cabin and a self-guided path interpret the history of the area. Over 50 miles of trails are open for hiking, horseback riding and bicycling which wind through a variety of habitats.

Amenities: A restroom is located in the first parking lot on the left once you enter the park. Please remember to bring your own water, bug repellent, and sunscreen for your protection.

Driving Directions:
From Washington, D.C, Virginia and points south: Take I-270 north towards Frederick, Maryland. Take Exit 10, Clopper Road (Route 117). Turn right at the light at the bottom of the ramp. The park is approximately 2 miles on the left.

From points north: Take I-270 south towards Washington, D.C., take Exit 11 (MD Route 124 west). Turn right at the light at the bottom of the ramp. At the second light, turn right onto Clopper Road (Route 117). The park is approximately 1.5 miles on the left.
