Quest Materials

Description of Quest:
The quest will take you to five interpretive signs in the meadow at Sang Run State Park. These signs will teach you about the fragile ecosystem of pollinator habitat. There will be five questions that correspond to each of the signs, that ask a question that can be found word-for-word. The first letter of each answer will spell out a five-letter word, which wins the Park Quest.

Availability: The quest is available: daily from May 1 to October 31.
The park is open from 8:00 am to sunset April 1 – October 31

Location where Quest starts:
The quest will start at the Friends Store and continue along the Bluebird Trail.

Length and time:
From the start point, teams will leave from Friends Store and continue along the Bluebird Trail, along the meadow, with several stops on the way, the quest will end again at Friends Store (total 1.4 miles). It will take 45 – 60 minutes to complete.

Accessibility:
The quest takes place on a mowed grass surface. A Waterless toilet facility is available in the parking lot near Friends Store. Leashed pets are permitted in the park.


Park information:
Step back in time at Sang Run State Park and the Historic Friends Store. A homestead, formerly known as Friends Delight, dates back to the early 1800’s. The original home site, farm and store were donated to Maryland in 2008 and designated as a State Park in 2017. Hike, fish, picnic or sit and relax along the wild and scenic Youghiogheny River​. The Bluebird Trail traverses the agricultural farm fields highlighting large old trees, wildflower meadows, and passes by a private family cemetery.

Driving Directions:
From Interstate 68, take Exit 14A to US-219 South. Follow US-219 South 10.2 miles to Hoyes Road. Turn Right onto Hoyes Road. Continue on Hoyes Sang Run Road for 1.8 miles. Turn left on Bishoff Road for 78 feet, then turn right onto Sang Run Road for 1.9 miles.
